Thank you for for your patience in this matter. We will be following up with any requests that came in once we have verified that everything is working.

This is a notice that the main computer network switch in the Media Services office is experiencing issues. This does not effect the Virtual Office server as it is not located in the Media Services office, however the staff at Media Services is experiencing erratic and sometimes prolonged network outages that prevent us from connecting to systems such as the Virtual Office, Email, and other networked devices.

We will do our best to use other means to connect and communicate with you about your needs and requests as we work to fix this issue, however several of the services we provide are greatly hindered at this time due to the fact that so much of what we do depends on computers being able to communicate with one another.

There is no doubt that community members are familiar with both the gustavus.edu and gac.edu domains. The gac.edu is most commonly used on campus because it is shorter and was established first. At the same time, Gustavus would like to be known as “Gustavus” and not “GAC” to the outside world, so both exist. Appropriate server voodoo has happened over the years to generally support either domain interchangeably. While Media Services generally supports this concept (gac.edu and gustavus.edu are one in the same), VirtualOffice and your web browser would like to disagree.

Long story short: you should access VirtualOffice by visiting http://mediaservices.gac.edu.

Here’s why: VirtualOffice uses an encrypted connection to send web page data to you (and keep your information safe!) In order to establish a secured connection without your web browser freaking out, the website has to be “something.gac.edu” and not “something.gustavus.edu.” If you were to visit “https://mediaservices.gustavus.edu,” your web browser would complain, so we encourage you to come visit us on line at mediaservices.gac.edu

These training sessions will run the entire business day, and the staff will be unavailable during this time. Please email needs to mediaservices@gustavus.edu and we will respond as soon as we can, but please realize that due to training we will not be able to follow up on most needs until after the start of the school year.

Another great option is to visit our VirtualOffice online at http://mediaservices.gustavus.edu

During the Academic Year the student staff at our office provide the means to keep the doors open during business hours for the walk in services we provide. As we finish out the Spring Semester (today is the last day of classes) and finals, most of these individuals will be leaving for a much deserved Summer Break. As we say good and good luck, we also need to take the time to point out that without the students, Media Services is unable to maintain the same level of service due to our ever shrinking staff. We encourage community members to call ahead or request an appointment to make sure that someone will be available to assist you in your needs.

Over the next week and a half, Media Services is responsible for setting up and supporting the two potential venues for Commencement, so we will be a bit occupied with this task. Once we are into the Summer (after June 1), we have a very talented staff of three students who will be working hard at servicing the needs of Summer Programs and the groups that visit our campus, as well as further developing the means by which we serve the community in the coming academic year. Feel free to call the office, or email a request to mediaservices@gustavus.edu and arrangements will be made to meet with you as needed to meet your needs.

Have a great summer.
